Plank Provisions
About This Spot
Stepping into Plank Provisions feels like uncovering a cherished hideaway along Omaha’s vibrant Howard Street. The space carries a quiet confidence — a refined yet welcoming lounge where the hum of relaxed conversation mingles with the subtle clinking of glasses. It’s a spot that invites you to slow down just enough to savor what’s in front of you, whether that’s a thoughtfully crafted cocktail or a plate that feels like an homage to the sea.
The atmosphere is gently nautical without ever feeling contrived, echoing a love for the water in its design touches and the way fresh seafood takes center stage. The pace here balances between lively and intimate, making it a natural gathering place for old friends catching up, or for solo explorers who want an approachable, unhurried experience. The attentive service quietly supports the mood, giving you space to settle in, share stories, and enjoy the moment.
Plank Provisions draws you inward with the subtle allure of oysters shucked to order, where each bite offers a glimpse of faraway shores through waves of salty, sweet, and briny flavors. Beyond the oysters, dishes arrive with warmth and care — a lobster bisque rich enough to invite another spoonful, shrimp cocktails that feel like a celebration of fresh, just-caught goodness, and dishes layered with familiar comfort yet light enough to leave room for conversation and curiosity.
What stands out is how the food, drink, and setting come together to create a layered experience. It’s not just about ticking menus or flavors, but the feeling of belonging — a place that knows how to welcome a stroller with grace, charm a group of longtime friends, and keep locals coming back for that perfect Sunday happy hour. It’s a thoughtful meeting spot where the pleasures of food and company linger just a little longer.

Gluten friendly menu options. This is a gem in the Old Market area. Shout out to Jack who was very patient with us: old college friends seeing each other after a years-long break. Everyone's food was delicious but I only took pictures of my GF items. The lobster bisque was fantastic, as was the shrimp cocktail and dirty rice.

I recently visited Plank Provisions in Omaha after receiving a 50% off coupon as part of a promotion showcasing their new menu. Naturally, as a seafood enthusiast, I was all in! I rallied the family for a downtown stroll followed by 5 p.m. reservations. We had a stroller with us, which gave me a bit of anxiety—first time bringing one to a restaurant. I was fully prepared to run it back to the car, but figured I’d ask if they could accommodate it. When we walked in, I politely asked the hostess if there was a place we could stash the stroller. Without so much as a smile, she replied with, “Do you have a reservation?” I said yes, and she responded, “Okay, ‘cause otherwise I was like…” (??) Definitely not the warm welcome you’d expect from a restaurant that wants to be in the elevated dining category. No guidance was given on the stroller, so we ended up folding it in half and tucking it aside, awkwardly. Not a huge deal, but it set a strange tone. Now, the food... We kicked things off with cocktails from the happy hour menu. The Strawberry Surfer was light, fresh, and disappeared fast. My mom thought it was strong—I thought it was perfection. I could’ve had a dozen. For apps, we went a little wild (no regrets): Maryland Crab Dip: Rich, decadent, and came with perfectly cooked focaccia. So good, but definitely a shareable—just a few bites will do. Crispy Rice Cake with Spicy Tuna: Great texture on the rice, though I wanted more heat from the tuna and a punchier sauce. Still a fun bite. Parker House Rolls: We were skeptical at first—they looked burnt—but it turns out that’s part of their flavor profile. Soft, hushpuppy-esque, and absolutely worth it. Cacio e Pepe Caesar Salad: The winner. If you love black pepper, this salad is a must. I’d order it again and again. Calamari: A miss. It was mostly fried crumbles with barely any squid filets. The Mexican-inspired sauce wasn’t my favorite pairing. I’d skip this one. For entrées: Scalloped Orzo: The orzo itself could’ve used more cheese to make it rich and gooey, but the scallops? Absolute perfection. Some of the best I’ve ever had. Walleye with Tapenade: Delicious. The fish was well-cooked, the tapenade added a nice salty bite, and the creamy polenta underneath? Chef’s kiss. Blackened Mississippi Catfish: Great flavor on the catfish, rice was well-seasoned, and the green beans had that ideal al dente crunch. But the crawfish beurre blanc was a letdown—it barely made it on the plate. I’ve seen photos where it's smothered; ours was barely a drizzle. Our server was excellent—great timing with refills, cleared plates quickly, and got us the check right when we needed it. Love that. Despite a rocky start, Plank remains a solid go-to seafood spot in Omaha, with a stylish vibe that works for both casual and special occasions. Grab a bite and enjoy a post-dinner stroll along the riverfront—it’s a winning combo.

Hands down the best Sunday happy hour in town! The fresh oysters are always spot-on, the cocktails are top-notch, and the peel-and-eat shrimp are absolutely fabulous. I love the location — I can mosey in, enjoy some amazing food and drinks, and then head right back out to explore the other local shops nearby. Definitely a regular stop for me!

Let’s start by saying WOW. I’m in Omaha for work around September/ October every year. Last year was my first time trying “Plank Provisions”. It caught my attention online because of the nautical theme and the diving helmet which is what I do for work. I was expecting good food but that was an understatement. Since I tried it last year right before going home it’s all I’ve thought about for 9-10 months. Being back at “Plank Provisions” a year later and they still haven’t lost their touch. Drinks: strawberry surfer- house citrus vodka, lemon, strawberry, coconut. $8 on Sunday all day happy hour! 8.5/10 perfect for that nice Sunday lunch not extremely strong or sweet but a perfect hint of refreshing. Appetizers: Oysters- chefs choice for happy hour Sunday! 10/10 extremely fresh and chilled. The sauces/ condiments. Prepared well and amazing flavor. Hush puppies-jalapeño jam, and chives. 10/10 flavor is amazing! perfect softness in center and crunch on the outside not overly cooked and seasoned well. Pairs perfectly with that sweet spicy jam. entrée: Lobster roll- the amount of flavor was extraordinary, perfectly cooked lobster with that sweet and savory buttered roll made to perfection. Wasn’t soggy at all and cooked just right. 9/10. Flavors were immaculate. I just wish there was more meat to bun ratio.

Plank was delicious and had amazing service and a beautiful atmosphere. We got the lobster bisque, calamari, broiled oysters, crab dip, shrimp tacos, fish sandwich, and the catfish. Literally everything was amazing

Everything was great. We had ahi tacos and truffle fries to start, butter lettuce salad, and then ahi pasta and crumbed walleye with polenta. Everything tasted great. We enjoyed our cocktails and wine as well. Their kids menu is very family friendly, and comes with veggies, fruit, and fries. Everyone left full and happy. Megan’s service was on point and she hit all of our modifications/requests perfectly.

Have dined here on several occasions. This time was the best. I had the scallops dish, which was fantastic! Finally food that is seasoned correctly. Our waiter made me an NA cocktail, sparking lemonade! It was also fantastic. Not pictured here was the crab dip and a glass of NA champagne. Would have been five stars for food but was looking for a few more selections on the menu. Both great! Atmosphere is upbeat but not too loud or stuffy. Sam and Adrianna were amazing! Thanks for a great visit!

We came for the happy hour and weren't disappointed. Super friendly service with great menu recommendations. Not a bad seat in the house with well thought out table seating, decor, and natural light.
